A Call to Serve
Camp HopeTree is a ministry program of HopeTree Family Services.
Founded in 1890 as the Baptist Orphanage of Virginia, HopeTree serves at-risk youth, adults with intellectual disabilities, and families across Virginia. Camp HopeTree builds upon this tradition by serving groups that support youth and people with intellectual disabilities, and providing a place of fellowship for people of all backgrounds.
A Proud History
Camp HopeTree was originally constructed in 1971 as a facility for Camp Virginia Jaycee, a summer camp for people with intellectual disabilities. Over the next 40 years, Camp Virginia Jaycee served thousands of people with intellectual disabilities and their families by providing a safe, exciting, and fun summer camp experience, while providing much-needed respite to family members and care providers.
HopeTree Family Services acquired the Camp HopeTree property in 2012 through a generous donation from Dare to Care Charities. Today, Camp Virginia Jaycee is an independent non-profit organization that continues to offer the summer camp program. After a two-year absence, Camp Virginia Jaycee returned to Camp HopeTree in 2013.
